Jannik Sinner had to withdraw from the Madrid Open 2024 before playing his quarterfinal match. The Italian suffered a hip injury and had to give up competing, not only for the
ATP 1000 in the Spanish capital, but also for the Rome Masters, where he was going to be the great local hope. All this left open the question of whether he could make it to
Roland Garros.
However, taking into account his latest statements in Rome, collected by José Morón, from Punto de Break, through his official X account, Sinner has set off all the alarms, and right now the world number 2 is more out than in to compete in the
French Open for the second Grand Slam in 2024.
"We thought it wasn't that serious, but apparently it is. I don't want to say exactly what problem I have. I don't know if I will play in Paris. I will if I'm 100 percent. I don't want to miss any more time out if the problem gets worse," says Sinner.
It is a shame the injury for a Jannik Sinner who had started 2024 in spectacular form. The Italian has been the best player on the circuit by far, winning the Australian Open and the Miami Open. We will have to see in what condition he arrives at Roland Garros, but it would certainly be a sensitive casualty in a tournament that is still unclear whether Carlos Alcaraz will be able to play due to his forearm discomfort.
