Jannik Sinner successfully defended his
Sofia Open title by defeating
Gael Monfils 6-3 6-4 in the final winning his 4th career title overall.
It was a very good week for Jannik Sinner who was able to defend his Sofia Open title successfully. The win gave him his 4th career title overall with all four coming in the last 11 months. His first-ever title came in Sofia last year and since then Sinner has emerged as one of the best tennis players in the world. This win gives him a lot of points which he needs as he battles for a place in Turin.
It was a very one-sided match against Monfils where the Frenchman never threatened Sinner overall. Monfils started off badly losing his serve early mostly due to his serve not working. Monfils needed his serve in this match and it was largely absent for the better part of it. Sinner was dominant on his own serve not allowing much and he was able to quickly win the first set with 6-3.
At 4-2 in the first set, Monfils had two break points but he played too passively and Sinner was able to hold for a 5-2 lead. Those were the only break points Monfils had in the whole set as Sinner was simply too solid overall. Monfils dipped slightly after he failed to convert those break points and that allowed SInner to break him early in the 2nd.
After taking a 2-0 lead Sinner simply held his serve to close it out with 6-4. A very good week for SInner who stays in the fight for Turin.
