"Just try to keep fighting" - Sinner on mentality in win over Bautista Agut

Jannik Sinner played an amazing match against Roberto Bautista Agut to reach his first Masters final at the Miami Open 2021.

The win is impressive in itself but when you consider that he was 0-40 down in a crucial game midway through the 2nd set it's even more impressive. Even beyond that, he was 3-1 down in the final set as well. Asked about what kept him going he said:

"If you're 0/40 down, just try to keep fighting. I think obviously that game helped me a little bit in the match. That game changed a little bit the match. It was the same as Hurkacz vs Tsitsipas... Some points can decide the match and sometimes can give you a little bit more strength. I think it was important that game."

The 19-year-old achieved something not a lot of players have achieved. He became only the 4th teenager to reach the Miami Open final behind Agassi, Nadal, and Djokovic. Asked about that he said:

"Joining [those names] feels great obviously but, as I always say, I'm 19- The road to have this big name is long. It's not done in one week of the tournament. [It] is a long process to [get] there."

It has been an incredible run from Sinner this past fortnight and his mentality in every match was just try to play that game. He confirmed as much after the match against Bautista:

“I tried to play my game. I just tried to make my game, tried to move him a little bit. He’s a very solid player, and obviously special thanks to [the fans]. Thank you very much!”

He will face Hubert Hurkacz in the final, which will be a final none expected. Even so, both of them are there for a reason as they were the most consistent in the past week.
