Kei Nishikori is set to make this comeback later this year after pushing it back from September with a couple of Challenger events on his schedule.
The Japanese player has been battling injuries for the majority of his career and it's been getting worse the older he gets. Now 32, Nishikori missed a long time this year after undergoing hip surgery in January of this year.
His initial plan was to come back during the North American hard court stretch with a planned appearance at the US Open but he had to abandon those plans. Now it's been publicised that he has accepted wild cards into two challenger events in Calgary and Drummondville.
They happen in consecutive weeks starting from November 7th. The tournament directors of both events released a joint statement that reads:
“We’re thrilled to have Kei at our tournaments. He’s
been one of the most prolific players on the Tour since the start of
his career, and even though he’s coming back from a major injury, he
remains a very talented player. We’re looking forward to seeing him play
again in Canada, and there’s no doubt our fans will be, too”.
