After the
epic match of almost 6 hours that he lost with
Andy Murray, the Aussie used his
social media to give a short message about his impressions.
During the
men’s singles second round at the
Australian Open, probably the most commented
match was the epic Andy Murray comeback from a two sets down, to eliminate the
local tennis player
Thanasi Kokkinakis. After a high-level match, the 26-year-old
posted a short message on Twitter to share his impressions:
“This
fu***ing sport man.”
The message is understandable after his defeat. Despite the
high level shown by the local, the scottish heart kept him on the court,
despite being down two sets down and 5-2 in the third set. Kokkinakis had the
serve to win the match, but he couldn't close it out due to Murray's
consistency. At times the Australian was visibly frustrated and made several
unforced errors that helped the Brit carry on a game that seemed to be close.
The epic
battle ran for 5 hours and 45 minutes, and not only did it become the longest
match that the three-time Grand Slam champion has played, but it is the third
match that ends later, being more than 4 am when the five time finalist at the
Australian Open closed the match with his serve.
This was
the 11th comeback win from being two sets down for the former No 1, an absolute
record on ATP tour. The final result was 4-6, 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, 7-5 for the British
legend.
Now Sir
Andy will have to face the third round, where he gonna challenge the 24th
seed Spaniard
Roberto Bautista Agut, who comes from beating Joao Sousa in three
sets at the first round, and the young
Brandon Holt, in another impressive
5-sets comeback to reach the last 32.
