Dusan Lajovic had a very rough day against Gerald Melzer in the Davis Cup Finals tie between Serbian and Austria.
The Serbian spent almost three hours on the court trying to defeat a player who barely even plays on the challenger tour anymore and although he was able to prevail in the end it came with a lot of issues. Lajovic did not play his best tennis at all which forced him to remain much longer on the court and it took a toll on his health and wardrobe.
First, the Serbian scraped his knee on the court which did not look too good but continued the match. Later on, his shoelace broke which forced him to experiment trying to solve the issue before continuing the match. Eurosport commentator Barry Millns said:
"Oh, dear. He scraped his knee and now he’s broken his shoelace. Not sure that one is going to last much longer."
"If he pulls any tighter, it’s going to snap even more, isn’t it?” added fellow commentator Barry Cowan. The whole ordeal took a few minutes as was halted until the issue was solved. When the match did continue Melzer won the 2nd set only to lose 7-5 in the 3rd.
