Matteo Berrettini's injury problems don't seem to be subsiding with the Italian ace having his
Brisbane International return already in doubt due to a fresh right foot injury.
Injury hampered Berrettini as he dropped out of the top 50 of the ATP Rankings in 2023 and even when it looked like he was going to be returning towards his best at Wimbledon, the US Open proved to be the fresh start of his problems.
He was unseeded at Flushing Meadows and beat Ugo Humbert 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 before suffering a ligament tear in his second-round against Arthur Rinderknech. He was out for the season after that and painfully had to watch his country win the Davis Cup solely from the sidelines.
According to Italian newspaper, La Repubblica, he was training in Turin with Lorenzo Sonego and he felt a problem with his foot. He is scheduled to make his return in the first week of the season at the Brisbane International, but likely will go in cold at the
Australian Open if he needs any time to recover.
It was a time of potential anticipation ahead of Berrettini's return with Francisco Roig joining his team after his long association with Rafael Nadal. But he reportedly has to already deal with an injured Berrettini when it looked like he was set for a successful comeback in Brisbane.
