Spain’s tennis star Carlos Alcaraz’s younger brother Jamie
Alcaraz is a big fan of Austria’s
Dominic Thiem. The 30-year-old has
had a difficult time on the court in the recent past despite winning a Grand
Slam in the recent past.
Alcaraz’s younger brother, Jamie, in a post on Thiem’s
social media platform Instagram, commentated on Thiem’s post and backed him for the
Madrid Open by writing: “Let’s Go’. The Wiener Neustadt-born is set to take
part in the qualifying round of the Madrid Open where he is set to face Brazil’s
Felipe Alves. Thiem does not have a great outing in 2024 where he is yet to play
beyond the round of 16 of any competition.
Thiem’s most recent outing was in the BMW Open in Munich
where he was knocked out after losing in the round of 32 to Spain’s Alejandro Moro
Canas in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4. The former world number three
was also knocked out of the Monte-Carlo Masters after losing in the qualifiers
to Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-2. Thiem
has a good record while playing at the Madrid Open where he finished runner-up
twice in 2017 and 2018. In the 2017 edition, he lost to the former world number
one Spain’s Rafael Nadal in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-4. A year
later, he lost to Germany’s Alexander Zverev with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
