It came as a huge surprise when Jannik Sinner announced in an Instagram post that he will not represent Italy in the Olympic Games. The Italian is the 2nd best-ranked player from Italy and a huge talent. However, a recent stretch of bad results prompted the youngster to take some time off and focus on his development.
He called the chance to represent his country the greatest honour but also highlighted the chance to do so many more times in the future. For him, it's about getting better as a player which has not been the case lately. His replacement will be another youngster from Italy, Lorenzo Musetti who is enjoying a breakout year in 2021.
Musetti is a clay-court specialist who possesses a very attractive playstyle that is suitable for many surfaces. His hard court results have been decent and he will have a chance to represent his country on the biggest of stages. Musetti joins Berrettini, Fognini and Sonego on Team Italia for the Olympics.
