What a match and what a moment for Lorenzo Musetti! On his sixth championship point, the 20-year-old Italian is an ATP title winner 🏆 #HamburgOpen
Carlos Alcaraz was undefeated heading into this Hamburg Open final but he was beaten by Lorenzo Musetti and his excellent effort 6-4 6-7(6) 6-4.
The Spaniard played a really strong event but with a lot of inconsistencies in his play. That followed him today as he was all over the place early in the opening set which Musetti won with 6-4. The Italian played well, pretty much the entire match, however, at times Alcaraz did find some solutions. The Spaniard was missing a lot early in the match and for the better part of the 2nd set.
Musetti was up a break and saved for the match at 5-4 in the 2nd set with a 40-15 lead. He lost that game to give Alcaraz a chance and the Spaniard took it in an incredible tiebreak where he was down 3-6. Alcaraz saved five match points in total in that second set to win it 8-6 in the tiebreak.
The final set featured the best-combined level out of all of them. Alcaraz played better but not his best while Musetti was pretty strong overall. It was a match where the Italian controlled everything rather well. It's been like that since the start and while he squandered an early break point he would up getting another one at 5-4. This time around he was able to close it out and win the trophy.
A pretty big win for Musetti and his maiden trophy. This is the first time Alcaraz was beaten in a final and very few saw it coming.
