The 2026 Brisbane International will start the ATP season in earnest and on the ATP Tour is the only action during the opening week alongside the United Cup and also Hong Kong. Auckland is the second week for the men. But the opener is between 4-11 January, 2026.

Predictions

Samuel Gill, Head Editor for TennisUpToDate sees one of two names crowned as champion.
Joao Fonseca for me will be one of the leading lights. He has been superb as of late and heads into the new year likely to improve even more than he has done already in the past 18 months.
The same can be said for Learner Tien who scooped the Next Gen ATP Finals title recently and alongside Cameron Norrie who is also in Brisbane really starred at the back end of the year.
Don't really see Daniil Medvedev pulling up many trees and think it will be a young man's tournament.

Cristhian Avila, Editor for TennisUpToDate sees Daniil Medvedev rising to the fore with a few surprises.
Among the men, Daniil Medvedev is on the rise and is the first seed, and now after several months with his new team, he will look to impose why he is one of the best in the Australian swing throughout his career. I expect a start to the year with several surprises, and with several exits of seeded players from the first rounds. Jiri Lehecka and Cameron Norrie will be names to consider in the tournament, although Joao Fonseca and Learner Tien hope to take a step forward early in the season and begin to show their hierarchy as players established within the top level.
*Daniil Medvedev, Jiri Lehecka, Cam Norrie
** Joao Fonseca, Learner Tien
Lucas Michael, Editor for TennisUpToDate also sees Fonseca as the standout alongside Medvedev.
The ATP tournament is very competitive with a winner possibly coming from anywhere in the field. The main player to talk about is Daniil Medvedev. The former US Open champion’s decline over the past year is obvious to see. However, it seems that he is starting to get back on track with a title in the Almaty Open and some deep runs in big events. Whether he can continue that into Brisbane I do not know but he will be here or there abouts when handing out the trophy.
Last year, Jiri Lehecka was lifting it high above his head. His end of 2025 was slightly underwhelming, losing in three tournaments on the trot. He could go either way, and I fear the same for Alejandro Davidivoch Fokina. The Spaniard will be competing in the Macau Tennis Masters, giving him the sharpness to compete and a slight advantage over the rest. Whether he can use that on court we shall see.
It will be good to see Tommy Paul back. If he can play the tennis he was at the start of last season, then I would probably pick him as my champion but a lack of time on court due to injury may hold him back. My dark horses will be the Moselle Open finalists in Learner Tien and Cameron Norrie. Especially the Brit who is coming back to his best form.
Despite all this, I am going to pick the talented Joao Fonseca to lift his third ATP title. The Brazilian can compete with the best on his day and after just a year of ATP tennis under his belt, he finds himself comfortably in the top 32. He knows how to win on the big stage, and I believe that will translate into 2026.
