Jannik Sinner (No. 3) defeated
Tomas Machac (No. 60) 6-4, 6-2 and secures another easy victory to advance to the semifinals. The Italian tennis player increased his record in 2024 to 20-1 and is into the last 4 of Miami for the third time in his career.
The 22-year-old young star had a good start with a quick break in his favor, but an inconsistent service game allowed Machac to recover the break and maintain parity. The Czech attempted to go on the offensive, stood well from the baseline, and frequently approached the net to close out points.
Sinner earned the second break point in the seventh game and then maintained consistency in his service to close out the set 6-4. The 2024 Australian Open champion had 8 winners and 3 unforced errors compared to Machac's 9 winners and 7 unforced errors.
Sinner's advantage prompted the Czech to take more risks in the exchanges, leading to constant unforced errors. After 1-1, Sinner had a good streak of four consecutive games won, capitalizing on two of his six break opportunities.
As the match approached its conclusion, Machac appeared more inconsistent against Sinner, who benefited from playing most of the match while ahead and ultimately secured passage to the semifinals with a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
Despite the win, Sinner did not have his best day in terms of serving, committing two double faults and only landing 57% of first serves throughout the match, although he faced just one break point against him.
In the semifinals, he will face the winner of the match between Nicolas Jarry (No. 22) and the 2023 champion Daniil Medvedev, in what could potentially be a rematch of last year's final.
