Former world number one
Boris Becker has called the coaching
span of
Goran Ivanisevic with Serbia’s legendary tennis star
Novak Djokovic an ‘extremely
successful partnership’.
It was announced by the 36-year-old in a detailed statement
that he will be parting ways with the former Wimbledon champion after spending
six seasons together.
"I remember clearly the moment I invited Goran to be
part of my team,” he wrote. It was back in 2018, and Marian and I were looking
to innovate and bring some serve magic to our duo.
“In fact, not only we brought serve, but also lots of
laughter, fun, year end no1 rankings, record breaking achievements and 12 more
Grand Slams. Goran and I decided to stop working together a few days ago.
“Our on court chemistry had its ups and downs, but our
friendship was always rock solid....Šefinjo, thanks for everything my friend.
Love you.”
Becker, while responding to the development on the social
media platform, called the partnership an ‘extremely successful one’. "Extremely
successful partnership! Well done Goran!,” he wrote.
Djokovic is often regarded as the greatest player in the
history of men’s singles tennis in the Open era, having won as many as 24 Grand
Slam titles. Half of those major titles came while playing under the coaching
of Ivanisevic.
