Winning the US Open in 2009 and retiring in 2022,
Juan Martin del Potro was a story of achieving a miracle during the era of the 'Fab Four' as he admits himself despite conjecture that perhaps he could've achieved a lot more during his career.
In the view of Del Potro speaking recently winning a Grand Slam may not seem like too much, but he said that in the era of Nadal, Djokovic, Federer and also Andy Murray, it is something he looks back on with great pride. He said also that battling in the sharp end of majors after reaching five or better Quarter-Finals in the sport is enough solace. He did return in 2022, but had a tearful farewell in an iteration perhaps of a player coming back despite it not being the best move to do so. There has been murmurings since of a return but those haven't come to fruition.
"Having won a Grand Slam in the best era of the Big 3 has a special value. Now we talk about the Big 3, but among us we always talked about the Fab 4, because Andy Murray has always been the closest to the best history. Any win against them felt impressive," said Del Potro as per Punto de Break. "Having won a Grand Slam may sound little, but it is not. Playing in the quarterfinals and semis against the best gives me the peace of mind that, despite not having won more, I always fought against them and that is enough for me."
