John McEnroe has long campaigned for Djokovic to be allowed to enter the US and he's called the rules a joke once more as the Serbian stills awaits a decision.
McEnroe is a fan of the best players playing at certain events. He was against the Wimbledon ban and he was against Djokovic not being allowed into the US Open. He called the rules in place a joke last year and he still thinks that way just a little over a week away from Indian Wells. Djokovic confirmed on February 22nd that he's still waiting for a decision after applying for an exemption.
Asked about the whole situation, McEnroe said:
"I think it's a complete joke that he's not allowed to play—to make a long story short. It's absurd they threw him out of Australia last year. I have had my vaccines. I respect that he's chosen not to do it. I would have done it but that's a whole other issue. But at this point, or even last year, he played in 2021 and then wasn't allowed to come in 2022 someone explain that to me."
McEnroe concluded with:
"It's absurd, in my opinion. We'll see what happens."
