Daniil Medvedev cruised in his
Indian Wells round 2 match against
Tomas Machac besting the Czech player with 6-3 6-2.
The Russian played his first match in Indian Wells as world number one and he truly played like a world number one. Beating Medvedev in Indian Wells is really tricky thing to do because the Russian can thrive in conditions where he is able to wear you down by sending every ball back. You need a lot of variety in your game to cause him trouble.
On the flip side, he also can't utilize his passing shots as efficiently as he usually does but none of that was trouble for him against Machac. The Czech player plays a typical strong serve, strong forehand game but that was not enough for Medvedev. When he got used to his opponent Medvedev quickly established control of the match.
He won the opening set with 6-3 and proceeded to play superb tennis moving forward. He took an early break and then almost another one but Machac stopped the bleeding. Eventually, Medvedev did get the 2nd break to take a 5-1 lead in the match. Medvedev finished it off with 6-2.
