Making a meteoric rise in the last couple of years with the new generation of young guns, Russia has four players in the top-30 of the ATP ranking list.
Daniil Medvedev and
Andrey Rublev have established themselves as the top-10 stars, followed by the Masters 1000 champion
Karen Khachanov and the Australian Open semi-finalist
Aslan Karatsev, who has joined the mentioned trio among the elite after raising his level since the last August.
The Russian Tennis Federation president Shamil Tapirschev had no doubts while making the Russian Olympic squad, mentioning his leading players as the Tokyo passengers. The
Olympic Games should take place in the Japanese capital in July and August, with the Russian federation hoping to grab at least one medal after sending such a strong squad.
"The tournament's announced postponement has no impact at all on our plans and preparations for the Olympic Games. The lists will be determined after Roland Garros; however, it is all clear already about our team. Our men's roster for the Tokyo Olympics is already known, and Roland Garros will have no impact on it.
Our men's team for Tokyo will include Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, Karen Khachanov and Aslan Karatsev. There are still some issues to be discussed about the women's Olympic team, but we get the picture on the whole," RTF President Shamil Tarpishchev said.
