Daniil Medvedev faced no issues against Marcos Giron in the first round of the
Australian Open as he won in straight sets 6-0 6-1 6-2 to move on.
The Russian was happy to return to the Rod Laver Arena in a competitive format after his last competitive match ended there in disaster. There was no signs of discomfort from the Russian as he quickly found his rhythm and showed everyone why he was the 2nd best at the event last year. Giron tried everything that he could but there was no rescue.
6-0 was the final score of the first set as Medvedev hit 8 winners in that one. The second set was the Russian drop his level as the final score was only 6-1. He had 9 winners in that one. The final set was the worst tennis by Medvedev yet as the final score was 6-2, a drop off from the previous two.
Despite the glaring dropoff in 'demolition' scorelines, Medvedev added 12 winners in that final set. He was quite eager to finish the match so he rushed far more than advised but that's Medvedev He never really lost control of the match and he showed how devastating he can be when he faces a player that lacks any weapon to attack him properly.
