Daniil Medvedev got beaten by Sebsatian Korda early in the event in Melbourne and due to that he'll drop out of the top 10 on the first rankings following the end of
Australian Open.
Medvedev was the runner-up last year and he was defending well above 1000 points at this event. The vast majority of those points will be lost due to him losing in the 3rd round of the Australian Open which doesn't offer more than 90. Due to the condensed rankings and the loss of points, Medvedev will see his name out of the top 10 for the first time since July of 2019.
It's been a tough 2022 year for Medvedev as he played generally okay but missed out on a couple of trophies, most notably the Australian Open. That defeat is something Medvedev spoke about often during last year admitting that it impacted his confidence greatly. It was visible on the court and this year isn't starting any better.
