The Miami Open wildcards have been announced, with two-time Grand Slam champion Petra Kvitova and former Wimbledon quarterfinalist Christopher Eubanks leading the pack. The tournament kicks off on 18 March, marking the second leg of the Sunshine Double over two exciting weeks.
Kvitova, the 2023 Miami champion, did not compete in 2024, making this her first appearance at the event since lifting the trophy. The Czech star took a break from the sport last year as she welcomed her daughter Bella in April.
Joining Kvitova in the women's draw is Australian Ajla Tomljanovic, a former US Open quarterfinalist, who is gradually climbing the rankings after recovering from injury, currently sitting at World No. 94.
Unlike Indian Wells, Miami’s organisers have handed wildcards to several young international talents, such as Alexandra Eala, Victoria Mboko, and Sayaka Ishii. The only American wildcard in the women’s draw is Tyra Grant, a three-time junior Grand Slam doubles champion.
On the men’s side, four wildcards have been confirmed so far, with Christopher Eubanks leading the charge. The former World No. 29 is aiming for a comeback to the upper echelons of the rankings. He is currently the only American wildcard in the men’s draw, which also features Eliot Spizzirri, Federico Cina, and China’s Wu Yibing, a former World No. 54.
