Patrick
Mouratoglou spoke about
Novak Djokovic's motivation to succeed and dominate the
tour.
The former
coach of Serena Williams shared his opinion on the Big 3 rivalry between Roger
Federer,
Rafael Nadal, and Djokovic in a video. From the Frenchman's point of
view, the three have different motivations to win and that is what makes their
rivalry more interesting.
“They (Big
3) have their inner motivations to win. That is the fascinating thing about
their rivalry and maybe the most important," Mouratoglou said on his
Instagram.
"Novak
wants to dominate. He wants to be above and he wants to be the king. It's in
his DNA. He has something to prove, which is not a negative thing at all. It's
his motivation and it led him to accomplish things that nobody thought were
possible except for him," add the coach.
Thus far,
Novak Djokovic has not shown his best performance on the clay court tour. With
a 2-2 record on clay, Nole suffered a loss in the round of 16 at Monte Carlo to
Italian player Lorenzo Musetti, and this week at the Banja Luka Open, he lost
to his compatriot Dusan Lajovic.
Despite these results, the World No.1 does not
appear to be worried about his performance, as he believes he is still
regaining his rhythm after withdrawing from the 'Sunshine Double' due to travel
restrictions to enter the USA.
“It's no
secret that you prepare and train for Roland Garros. The same thing happened
last year, I had a very slow start to the tour and I started to play better
towards the end of the tour," said Djokovic after his loss in Banja Luka.
"I
didn’t even feel good physically on the court, I felt slow, with sluggish legs,
I missed a lot of balls, and was totally out of shot. At times I played well,
but well below my level," he added.
