Andy Murray
joked about
Liam Broady's outfit for the 2023
French Open.
The 3-time
Grand Slam champion Andy Murray commented on a photo of his compatriot Liam
Broady on Instagram. Broady, currently ranked No. 140 in the world, is
competing in the French Open qualifiers where he is the 28th seed. He managed
to win his opening match against local player Arthur Gea with a score of 4-6,
6-4, 6-3.
After the
victory, Broady shared a photo of himself wearing the official Bidi Badu outfit
and asked his followers for their opinions on the attire. Murray, the former
world No. 1, took the opportunity to tease his fellow countryman.
“Did you
actually wear that at Roland garros? 😂 😂 fair play mate that's a shocker," Murray wrote.
However,
Murray has already confirmed that he will once again not be participating in
the French Open. His last appearance in the tournament was in 2017, where he
was defeated in the first round by Stan Wawrinka in three sets. Instead, the
2016 French Open finalist has chosen to focus on his upcoming participation in
Wimbledon, a tournament he has previously won in 2013 and 2016.
"It’s
not so much about [physical worries]. I trust that my body will be OK after
what I did at the beginning of the year. I played back-to-back five-hour
matches and did well physically in those matches. There’s no reason why that
should necessarily be any different here (at the French Open)," he said in
an interview with The Guardian.
"I
trust my body now but I’m aware that my best chance of having a deep run is
more likely to happen at Wimbledon,” Murray concluded.
