Casper Ruud won the
Geneva Open last year and he's back this year to try and do it again with his title defence beginning with a win over
J.J. Wolf 6-3 7-5.
Ruud enjoys playing in Geneva because it's a bit of a specific clay court due to the altitude. The balls fly a bit faster and it allows players to play a bit more aggressive than usual. It's not as quick as Madrid so traditional clay players still can find a way to play well on the surface. Wolf is certainly not a clay player but he can play well on it.
This was a decent effort from him but still Ruud was able to win the match in two sets. The first set saw Ruud dominate on his serve as he almost didn't lose a point on it. On return, Ruud did enough to create two break points chances and he used one for the 6-3 finish. The second set was played really well by Wolf.
He dominated on his serve dropping only one point behind his first set but still allowed a break point which Ruud converted. The Norwegian faced two break points as well, in the final game of the match but saved both to hold on and win. A good early test but passed without many complications.
