Andy Murray played his best ATP event in Metz at the
Moselle Open reaching the quarterfinal, and the tournament director believes he can be back inside the top 30.
Andy Murray desired tremendous passion for tennis by fighting hard to come back and play tennis regularly after essentially getting a metal hip. It's an incredible achievement that has inspired many including Kim Clijsters to come back to tennis herself. For Murray, the goal was simply proving to himself that he can still play good tennis.
After Metz he said:
“I think I played better this week than I did in Cincinnati and in Winston Salem. I did play a pretty good match at the US Open. But like I said the other day, I’m not that interested in playing well and losing. I want to be winning these matches and I’ve certainly created enough opportunities to not necessarily win all of them, but to make it closer than what it has been and give myself a better chance of winning."
Metz Tournament director Julien Boutter agrees with that as he said:
“Murray has tennis in his racket to get back into the Top 30. I spoke with him about it. He agreed."
Whether Murray can do it remains to be seen but the Brit played a very good first match in San Diego to move to the 2nd round. His goal for the rest of the season is to build up stamina and confidence before the Australian Open where he believes he can do some proper damage.
