Daniil Medvedev is not a fan of clay or anything related to clay but his ambition still drives him to try and win the
Roland Garros.
Daniil Medvedev is not a fan of clay yet despite that he shared that his goal is actually winning Roland Garros. It has been a rocky 2021 for Daniil Medvedev on clay as his statements about the surface spoke more than his play on the surface. He played three matches on the surface in 2021 winning only one.
One of these statements was when he said he would be happy to win one match at the Roland Garros. Now the Russian shared different ambitions for the
French Open. He said:
“I was joking when I said that about “winning at least one match at Roland Garros. It is a joke, of course! If this were really my mindset, I would not even compete.”
He then shared what his real goal for the Grand Slam is:
“My real goal is to win the tournament. To do this, I’ll just focus on each match and try to win each of them.”
It is a noble goal and one that many tennis players have but Daniil Medvedev never won a match in the main draw of the French Open. He played four matches in his career losing all four of them. Perhaps 2021 will be his lucky year as the Russian is the number two seed at this event.
The Roland Garros starts on Sunday and we will have daily coverage for the event. Stay tuned.
