Spain defeated Great Britain 2-1 in the semifinal tie at the 2019 Davis Cup Finals in Madrid to reach the final.
Standing on the court first, Kyle Edmund and Feliciano Lopez fought for the first point of the Saturday's evening. The player representing Great Britain started the match with 7 straight points what guaranteed him an important lead.
Lopez was not able to chase Edmund later in the first set and Edmund won it 6-3. However, in the second set, Lopez had 2 break points which also meant set points. But the Spaniard was not able to use them and so tie-break needed to decide. There, Edmund was better again and won it 7-3 to earn the first point for Great Britain.
World number one Rafael Nadal was there to save the day for Spain. First he played Daniel Evans in singles. He had a slower start as he was not able to break Evans for some time. But since 4-4 in the first set, Nadal did not lose a single game and won the match 6-4 and 6-0.
As the score showed 1-1 after 2 matches, doubles needed to decide. Jamier Murray paired up with Neal Skupski to face Rafael Nadal and Felician Lopez. The first set needed to be decided in a tie-break where Spanish duo won 7-3. In the second set, Skupski & Murray had 2 break points, but did not use any and so tie-break had to decide again. There, Spaniards were successful again to win the second point for Spain and move them to final.
