Jo-Wilfried Tsonga believes that the GOAT debate would be over if Nadal wins more Grand Slams than Federer.
The greatest tennis player of all time is a question that will probably never be answered conclusively because it's a highly subjective matter. Some say it's Federer, some say it's Nadal some say it's Djokovic. But Jo-Wilfried Tsonga believes it could be Nadal whom he sees as the favourite at Roland Garros:
“Today, there is no one who doubts that he is the inevitable favourite. You ask all the players, even those who are able to beat him today, they think he is the favourite. There is no doubt, he has won thirteen times in fifteen years, it’s just out of the ordinary. If there is one favourite, it’s
Rafael Nadal."
Nadal is currently tied with
Roger Federer for most Grand Slam wins at 20 which gives Nadal an opportunity to overcome Roger with a win at Roland Garros. If he wins he will be the sole leader with 21 Grand Slam wins. For Tsonga it's enough to declare him the greatest of all time:
“If he were to overtake Roger with the number of Grand Slam titles, there would definitely be no more debate about the greatest player of all time.”
Tsonga has not been the only player who gave his opinion on the matter as Serena recently endorsed Roger Federer as the GOAT calling him a true genius.
