The agent of Carlos Alcaraz, Albert Molina has opened up about his work in protecting the World No.2 and recently crowned French Open champion, mainly from unwarranted female attention.
Alcaraz at the age of only 21 is already a tennis superstar and shot to fame in 2022 by winning the US Open, his first Grand Slam title. He then achieved further accolades including becoming World No.1 and winning Wimbledon. But he also added the French Open which will add a further spotlight onto his name in the coming weeks and months.
Winning 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 against Alexander Zverev, his reputation in the sport is bound to grow. Albeit Molina now has to deal with more people trying their hardest to get to the Spaniard who has a kind nature but that also attracts the wrong attention. He said that one of the worst parts of his job is dealing with this.
"One of the worst parts of my job has to do with rejecting communication with some people or sectors interested in Alcaraz. Not only with interested people who sign up at the moment and want to talk or be close to Carlos at that moment," said Molina to COPE.
"We cut off personal calls unless he says that one is really important. Opportunists have no option to talk to him. There are people who don't go through me. I'm sure there will also be some female calls we didn't find out. I know that the problem is that Carlos is very noble, it is not because of Carlos but because of the people he may have by his side and not because of his friends because they are good people. But hey, when you expose yourself so much outside, there are always people with a phone who can record something that may be taken out of context or may not be reality as it is."
