Spani’s
Carlos Alcaraz and Denmark’s
Holger Rune are set to
equal a unique record at the upcoming
ATP Finals.
The competition will be played in Italy’s city of Turin
from November 12 to 19 where eight top players will battle it out to secure the
ultimate prize. Two of those players will be Alcaraz and Rune. Both of them are
still under 21 years old and they will equal the unique record by playing in
the competition.
Previously, an instance where two under-21 players took part
in the mega event came way back in 2000 when Australia’s Lleyton Hewitt and Russia’s
Marat Safin participated in the competition.
Both Alcaraz and Rune, who are often regarded as two of the
most highly-rated young players currently playing in the circuit, will be
hoping to produce a much better result than their recent outings on the court.
Alcaraz recently suffered a shocking defeat in the Paris Masters
where he was knocked out of the competition in the round of 32 after losing to
Russia’s Roman Safiullin in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4.
On the other hand, Rune, who has struggled continuously in
the second half of the year, was knocked out of the competition in the French capital
after losing to the current world number one Serbia’s Novak Djokovic with a
score of 7-5, 6-7, 6-4.
