Nick Kyrgios has continued to drop in the ATP Ranking after injuries forced him to miss a majority of the 2023 season.
The 2022 Wimbledon finalist has a career-high ranking of World No. 13 but has only competed once this year. The 28-year-old was forced to withdraw from the Australian Open in January due to a knee injury and he remained absent throughout the spring, missing the French Open, before attempting to make a comeback at the Stuttgart Open in June.
However, Kyrgios lost to Wu Yibing in the first round and withdrew from Wimbledon shortly after.
"During my comeback, I experienced some pain in my wrist during Mallorca. As a precaution I had it scanned and it came back showing a torn ligament in my wrist," he explained at the time.
Kyrgios risks falling out of Top 500
Over the summer, the Australian player announced that he would not be competing at the US Open but insisted that he is still planning on making a comeback to the sport when he is ready.
"To my millions of fans out there, I guess we just have to be patient. Trust me, I still have some fire left in the tank, my body just needs time to recover and get back. Everything off-court is doing great. l am eyeing to come back and have a season like my last again," he said.
A date has not yet been given and in the meantime, Kyrgios is still falling in the ATP Ranking, now sitting at World No. 470. Nevertheless, his profile and previous success in the sport should see plenty of wild cards come his way which could help him regain ranking points upon his return.
Kyrgios recently appeared on Mike Tyson's podcast, where he reiterated his plans to make a comeback and his hopes to have another successful season like in 2022.
"I am just trying to be able to get back as soon as possible because I do miss playing and especially being so close to winning Wimbledon last year, I know I’m right there," he said.
