Nick Kyrgios responded to Novak Djokovic's desire to play doubles again this year. The 24-time Grand Slam champion recently commented that he enjoyed his partnership with the Australian earlier this year and even proposed a tournament for them to team up once more.
Earlier this year, shortly after Kyrgios announced his return following two seasons and several surgeries, the Brisbane International revealed a doubles partnership featuring none other than Kyrgios and Djokovic for the first time. The two players faced each other in the 2024 Wimbledon final, where Djokovic triumphed in four sets.
Djokovic and Kyrgios have shown their great relationship off the court over the years, so the partnership wasn’t a complete surprise, especially as both players were seeking to find their competitive rhythm at the start of the season.
They debuted with a win over doubles specialists Alexander Erler and Andreas Mies, advancing to the second round. They faced top seeds Nikola Mektic and Michael Venus but couldn’t secure the win, falling 2-6, 6-3, 8-10 in a close match.
Upon Djokovic’s arrival at the Miami Open, the Serbian spoke about his desire to play doubles with the Australian again this season. "I do really wish that we play another time [in] doubles," the former world No. 1 said.
The Serbian mentioned his hopes of playing at the Belgrade Open, where he is a local favorite, and said if Kyrgios travels to the tournament in Serbia, he would love to take the opportunity to partner up. “Later on this year we have a tournament in Belgrade, I’m planning to play it. I don’t know if he’s planning to come, so maybe, yeah, maybe we should slam it there.”
Kyrgios didn’t take long to respond to the invitation and shared on social media that he will compete in the tournament. "I’m in, partner," marking what will be their second adventure together in doubles. The ATP 250 tournament on indoor hardcourts will take place from November 3 to 9, a few days after the Paris Masters and one week before the start of the ATP Finals.
