Kei Nishikori suffered a setback while getting ready to return and he will now return next year as his injury struggles continue.
Key Nishikori has not played since October of last year and just recently he fell out of the ATP rankings entirely due to inactivity. The Japanese player hoped to start the year in Australia but he could not due to an injury and he underwent hip surgery.
Since then he's been on a quest to return to tennis but was never able to get healthy enough to play. He was set to make his return soon for a couple of challenger events but once again it won't happen as another setback happened.
Fortunately for Nishikori, this has nothing to do with the hip and it's rather an ankle sprain that will leave him out of action for about a month. Upon the advice of his team, he abandoned this season to focus on next year. He should be back to practice in December.
