The 2024 Wimbledon Championships saw several players achieve new milestones, but a particular record set at SW19 saw the grass-court Major distinguish itself from the other Grand Slam events.
Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz defeated 23-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in straight sets on Sunday to win his second straight Wimbledon title. This would be Alcaraz's second consecutive victory over the Serbian in a Wimbledon final, with the former World No.1 besting Djokovic in a five-set thriller during last year's final.
Despite there being several matches that went the distance and a few finishing in haste, no men's match finished with a single 6-0 set score. There were 125 matches played, 37 of them going to five sets. However, there was no score where a player did not at least register a game on the scoreboard in every set.
The unique statistic makes the 2024 Wimbledon Championships the first men's Grand Slam event in the Open Era to not have a single 6-0 set scored. This could be pointing to a sign of parity on grass courts, as most players have only a few weeks to transition from clay to the grass courts of SW19.
