Spain’s
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has revealed that he
will tell his kids about meeting the former world number one
Bjorn Borg.
The 24-year-old is currently taking part in the
Laver Cup
where he is representing Team Europe.
During the competition, Davidovich Fokina managed to meet
the 11-time Grand Slam winner in the Open era and stated that he would tell his
kids about meeting such a legendary player.
"It's gonna be a nice story when I will tell to my
kids, for sure, that I have Bjorn next to me,” he said. “After that I watched
obviously not live, but I watched his games, and to have it there is quite
similar when he plays. Very calm guy.”
Borg is often termed one of the greatest players in the
history of men’s singles tennis as he ended as he became the first player to
win 11 major titles in the Open era.
Those victories involved six French Open titles and five
back-to-back victories in Wimbledon.
Borg, who became the world number one in August 1977, ended his
illustrious career after winning 66 titles at the highest level.
His last major title victory came in 1981 when he defeated
Czech Republic’s Ivan Lendl in the final of the French Open in a five-set
thriller with a score of 6–1, 4–6, 6–2, 3–6, 6–1.
