World no. 1 Novak Djokovic earned a massive ranking milestone on Monday, becoming the second player with 300 weeks on the ATP throne after the record-holder Roger Federer.
Federer tops the charts with 310 weeks as world no. 1, and Novak is moving closer to him, celebrating the 300th week at the top and looking safe to overshadow Roger's record in March. Novak became world no. 1 in July 2011 following the Wimbledon title, performing as the most consistent player in the previous decade and melting the deficit to Roger at the top.
After a marvelous comeback in 2018, Novak reached the ATP throne and has kept it for almost every week, losing the throne to Rafael Nadal for a couple of weeks and getting back there following the Australian Open crown in February. Djokovic has been the player of the season, winning four titles and not losing a match before the US Open. Novak will kick off the 2021 campaign at the ATP Cup, hoping to gather a boost ahead of the first Major of the season in Melbourne, where he would seek the ninth crown.
"Matching Roger Federer's record is one of my two most important goals. I want to move in front of Roger on most weeks as world no. 1 list and win as many Majors as possible. I have been saying that before, and I'm working towards that. I'm in a good position. Hopefully, I can stay healthy and continue to play well," Novak Djokovic said.
