Matteo Berrettini saw two of his grand slam campaigns cut short due to
Novak Djokovic and the Italian praised one aspect of the Serbian's game in particular.
Matteo Berrettini faced Novak Djokovic twice at Grand Slams this year and each time it was Djokovic who proved better. Both the match at the French Open and in the Wimbledon final saw Berrettini with decent chances but each time the Italian, who loves to play attacking tennis, failed to hit through Djokovic. The Serbian defended extremely well against Berrettini and most of that is due to tremendous movement on the court.
The Italian agreed singling out his exceptional movement on all surfaces:
“I would say either Novak or Daniil Medvedev (are like a backboard). It always takes something extra to win a point against those two. The ball keeps coming back from all corners of the court. There are a lot of great athletes, but I would need to say, Novak (when asked to name the best mover). Incredible mover on all the surfaces.”
The Italian also spoke about the historic US Open final where Djokovic failed to complete the calendar grand slam. Most agree that it was due to the tremendous pressure Djokovic felt and while Berrettini accepts that pressure comes with the job he also said:
"Even without the media, players would still feel the pressure. They have trained their whole lives to win
trophies, achieve personal goals, and break and set incredible records. So they also put pressure on
themselves. They know how significant their achievements are and
potentially how important they could be to whatever they are trying to
achieve.”
