With ATP star
Jannik Sinner currently playing some of the best tennis of his career, Italian Davis Cup captain Filippo Volandri believes the youngster trails only World No.1
Novak Djokovic in terms of form right now.
Sinner lifted the title earlier at the China Open in October, before finishing runner-up at last week's Vienna Open. The 22-year old has been playing some lights-out tennis, reaching a career-high of World No.4 and clinching a ticket to the year-ending
ATP Finals.
Volandri hypes Sinner's style of play following his performance in Vienna
"What I liked about yesterday's victory is that Jannik interpreted it differently compared to Beijing," said Volandri. "In Asia he was perfect tactically, trying to make many serves and volleys and putting many different things into play. Yesterday, however, he beat the Russian where he is strongest.
"He always played a very aggressive game, but more from the back. Who is superior to Sinner at the moment? Novak Djokovic. Because he has such great experience that he knows how to handle any type of situation. Jannik though certainties are being built, the result of results and a different physique from last year.
"A progress in all the fundamentals that was noticed on serve, especially when he found himself managing the important points."
The young Italian will face American Mackenzie McDonald in his opening round match at the 2023
Paris Masters.
