Novak Djokovic has added a tournament to his schedule as he will play the Geneva Open for the second straight year later this month. He lost last year to Tomas Machac.
Djokovic has had a lacklustre clay court season so far. He is yet to win a match on the surface. He lost in his opener at the Monte-Carlo Masters to Alejandro Tabilo. Then in Madrid, he was beaten by Matteo Arnaldi. Both in straight sets.
He decided against competing at the Rome Open this year, a tournament that he has won six times. Geneva will be his final chance to get some wins under his belt before the French Open gets underway on May 25th.
He got wins over Yannick Hanfmann and Tallon Griekspoor before losing to Tomas Machac in the semi-finals. But is an interesting move to go to a smaller tournament which is headlined by Taylor Fritz and Casper Ruud.
After not playing in Rome, the onus is seemingly to get more match practice and wins under his belt as he also searches for a 100th tour level title. A milestone that has only been achieved by Roger Federer and Jimmy Connors.
Grigor Dimitrov, Machac, Alexei Popyrin, Hubert Hurkacz and Denis Shapovalov are also on the Entry List for the tournament which begins on May 17th.
