Novak Djokovic spends time at a Miami beach with his friends after withdrawing
from the
Miami Open due to balancing his "private and professional
schedule." The 24-times Grand Slam champion decided to take some time off
after his third-round defeat at
Indian Wells against the 20-year-old Italian,
Luca Nardi, who had never before reached the top-100 in his career.
The Serbian
confirmed that he would not participate in the second part of the Sunshine
Double and took the opportunity to spend time with his associates and friends,
Charlie Gomes and Mark Stilitano. The world No. 1 arrived in Miami and attended
an NBA game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors on
March 16th.
Two weeks
ago, Nole returned to Indian Wells after 5 years, and his participation in
Miami (also after 5 years) was confirmed, which ultimately will not happen.
Djokovic
did not have a good start to the season by his usual standards, with Serbia's
defeat in the quarterfinals of the United Cup against Alex De Minaur, which was
crucial for the Australians' advancement. He then exited in the semifinals of
the Australian Open against
Jannik Sinner, ending a streak of 33 consecutive
wins in Melbourne. Now, his early departure from Tennis Paradise adds to his
challenges.
Djokovic
will return during the clay season, where he is registered for the Monte-Carlo
Masters. He will be the top seed since he still maintains a considerable lead
over his pursuer,
Carlos Alcaraz, in the ATP Rankings.
