Novak Djokovic, a man of charity first, tennis second

Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic has revealed that reason behind agreeing to play a charity matches in Bulgaria and Buenos Aires. The 37-year-old is regarded as the greatest player in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category, having won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles.

Djokovic is set to take part in two exhibition matches in Bulgaria where he will face local favourite Grigor Dimitrov and then later in Buenos Aires where he will face the one-time Grand Slam winner Juan Martin del Potro play in front of the home crowd one last time.

The Belgrade-born star revealed, who is currently with Team Serbia as they are playing the Davis Cup tie against Greece, has recently spoken to journalist Ana Mitric where he explained the reason behind accepting those invitations.

"With Grigor, he came to Serbia to play in the Adria Tour exhibition a few years ago, and then we agreed that I'm going to play with him in Bulgaria when the time arrives, and it's suitable for both of us,” he said. “So, now is the time, and I look forward to it. I never played in Bulgaria, and we are obviously culturally very similar nations and people. So, that's going to be fun.

He further continued by saying: “Del Potro is retiring from tennis with this exhibition match. We all know the impact that he has left on tennis in general. He has been one of the most exciting players to watch in the last two decades. [Plus,] the charisma, the character-very lovable guy, very likable guy. We've seen so much support [for him] around the world, and particularly in his home country, Argentina. So, that should be a great event. It should be a phenomenal experience to play there and be part of this farewell match."
