Renown tennis coach
Patrick Mouratoglou thinks
Rafael Nadal relied on some tactics used by
Nick Kyrgios to defeat
Daniil Medvedev and lift the
Australian Open title on Sunday.
Nadal rallied from a two-set deficit to defeat Medvedev in the final and win a record 21st Grand Slam title. However, the Spaniard had to fight hard to overcome the Russian, and began employing drop shots after losing the second set. This strategy proved to be successful, as Nadal won several of those points which led to him winning the third set and eventually the match.
Kyrgios faced Medvedev in the second round and apparently employed those same tactics. This led to Mouratoglou tweeting out during the match that Nadal was copying the same pattern used by the Aussie.
"Funny to see Rafa use the same tactics as @NickKyrgios against Daniil with the patter serve / drop shot," wrote Mouratoglou on Twitter.
Regardless of the methods used, Nadal completed a historic comeback that saw him lift his second Australian Open title. Furthermore, this victory put the Spaniard on a unique list in history, as the 35-year old has now won every Grand Slam title at least twice in his career.
