Australian tennis star
Nick Kyrgios believes that younger players
should be protected from the constant change of balls in the sport.
There have been complaints about some of the big-name players
as well as the younger ones about the impact the change of balls had on
their play on the court.
Kyrgios, who is currently spending time on the sidelines as
he continues his recovery from an injury sustained in the second half of 2022,
was recently quoted in a report where he stated that younger players, especially
someone like
Carlos Alcaraz, should be protected more as they are the future of
the sport and their fitness should not be compromised because of constant
change of balls.
"I think we'd have to find one [solution],” he said. “Because
you look at someone like Carlos Alcaraz, and as the greatest of all time,
Novak, Federer, Nadal. When these guys depart the sport and they led the way
for so long, we need we need to look after the players for the future
generation.
"You look at someone like Alcaraz, who has already had
a couple injuries that can really hurt a player, and changing balls week in
week out can contribute to injuries. And we don't want to see one of our
electric young stars get injured because of a monetary tennis ball issue."
