Former world number one
Andy Roddick believes that younger
players will start feeling more confident while playing against legendary Novak
Djokovic once they start beating him.
The 36-year-old is often regarded as the greatest player in
the history of the men’s singles tennis in the Open era, having won as many as
24 Grand Slam titles in his illustrious career.
Roddick was recently quoted in a report where he suggested
that once the younger players will have the self-confidence to beat Djokovic,
they will never revert.
"He [Djokovic] kind of limped out of this Australian
Open a little bit, you know, through no fault of his own, the guy’s been better
than anyone on Earth, and it's gonna happen,” he said.
"But I'm a little concerned… one, he's not getting
younger when it turns, it turns quickly also, he has guys that can punch him in
the mouth, you know, he has this new generation that once they know they can
beat him, they're not going to revert to the mentality that there's no way to
beat him.”
Djokovic’s journey at the
Australian Open 2024 came to an end
in the semifinal after he lost to Italy’s young tennis star Jannik Sinner with
a score of 6-1, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3.
