The Greek player has yet to dazzle tennis fans the way he can at Indian Wells not enjoying too much sucess at the event. Despite not the best memories Tsitsipas enjoys coming to the desert calling it a special place the last time he was here in 2019. He feels an honour playing here, an honour similar to the one you feel playing a Grand Slam:
“Indian Wells is known to be one of the best tennis tournaments in the world and I think every single player is excited to be playing here. It does feel like kind of a big thing to play a Grand Slam, but you kind of feel the same honour playing in this tournament.”
The Greek players also showed a healthy dose of humour explaining the dry conditions as something that is a good sign for him and everyone else. He joked:
“It’s very dry here. We know that when we come here the conditions are really dry. That is good for me because I guess I sweat less, which makes for fewer bathroom breaks, which makes for fewer complaints, so very good sign so far.”
Tennis pundits believe the Greek will thrive in the slower conditions of Indian Wells especially with his questionable backhand return with some even calling him the favourite. As the 2nd seed behind Medvedev, he certainly will have a shot.
