Dominic Thiem missed Wimbledon after suffering a detachment inside his wrist but the Austrian is confident he will be back in time to play at the US Open.
The highlight of Dominic Thiem's career came at last year's US Open when he lifted his first Grand Slam trophy after failing in several previous attempts. Disaster struck for Thiem at the Mallorca Open when he suffered a detachment in his wrist which required a splint to heal.
Thiem has not performed in tennis activities for close to two months now with the Austrian doing other exercises to stay in somewhat of a shape. Thiem posted a picture on Instagram recently showing his splint is off which means he can pick up a racquet.
That gave him optimism that he will be ready for the US Open after all. Speaking to media recently he said it would be a victory for him if he was able to simply play at the US Open despite nobody expecting him to do well. Getting back into game shape is tough especially after not playing a single match.
Thiem enjoys playing in New York and he hopes that will help him acclimate sooner to the conditions makes his Flushing Meadows stay longer than just a one-match showing.
