Roger Federer spoke fondly about his memories of the first
Laver Cup where he played doubles with
Rafael Nadal.
Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are one of the most popular athletes of all time and exactly four years ago Nadal and he played doubles together at the Laver Cup. They faced Jack Sock and Sam Querrey and they defeated them in a very good match. Speaking about the Laver Cup Federer recalled that occasion saying:
"The doubles with Rafa was truly special because there was so much hype that came before it."
The crowd was fired up, the players were fired up and Federer and Nadal truly enjoyed themselves on the court. It was something special and everyone in the crowd was enjoying it including Sock and Querrey who found themselves on the losing end.
Federer also spoke about how he would like to continue working with the Laver Cup even after hanging it up:
“I’d love to be the captain one day. I think it’s a beautiful way of getting the rivals to coexist for a week together."
It truly is a unique occasion where players play on the same side of the net for a common goal which is usually not the case. They set aside their rivalries for a couple of days to perform and try to win the competition for their team.
