Day Three of the 2023 Rolex Paris Masters will get underway today, November 1 at the AccorHotels Arena in Bercy, France. Here is our preview of the day, including Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, and Jannik Sinner.
First up on Court Central, third seed Medvedev will take on World No. 17 Grigor Dimitrov. The latter has had some good results on the ATP Tour recently, including a run to the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters and the Chengdu Open. In his opening round in Paris, Dimitrov survived a three-set battle with Lorenzo Musetti.
However, Medvedev currently dominates their head-to-head 6-2, and the 27-year-old has been on good form for the most part, making the final of the Vienna Open last week and the China Open earlier in October. The Russian defeated Dimitrov in straight sets at the 2023 Rotterdam Open and fought back from a set down to win their clash in Vienna 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Next, seventh seed Stefanos Tsitsipas will face World No. 19 Felix Auger-Aliassime. Both have had difficult seasons where at times they have struggled to put together back-to-back wins, but prior to this tournament, Tsitsipas reached the semi-final of the European Open and the Vienna Open. Meanwhile, Auger-Aliassime defended his title at the Swiss Indoors Basel and defeated Jan-Lennard Struff to make the Round of 32 in Paris.
Following this, Djokovic will kick off his Paris Masters campaign against Tomas Martin Etcheverry. His main rival Carlos Alcaraz suffered a shock defeat in the opening round, meaning that a clash between the two is now off the table. The World No. 1 defeated Etcheverry at the Italian Open earlier this year.
Next up, tenth seed Alexander Zverev will face Ugo Humbert. In the opening round, the German player defeated Marton Fucsovics in a three-set thriller, while Humbert moved past Marcos Giron in straight sets. The French player currently leads his head-to-head with Zverev 1-0.
After this, sixth seed Holger Rune will meet 2020 US Open champion Dominic Thiem. The latter moved through qualifiers before ousting Stan Wawrinka in three sets while Rune made it to the semi-finals of the Swiss Indoors Basel last week.
Finally, fourth seed Sinner will face Mackenzie McDonald. The Italian player has had a lot of success over the last month, winning both the China Open and the Vienna Open titles. In the first round in Paris, McDonald came back to defeat his compatriot J.J. Wolf in three sets.
