The final of the 2023
Paris Masters will take place today, Sunday, November 5, at the AccorHotels Arena. Here is our
preview of the event, as
Novak Djokovic faces
Grigor Dimitrov.
World No. 1 Djokovic will aim to end the last ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the season on a high after winning three out of four Grand Slams earlier this year and equaling Margaret Court's record of 24 major titles.
Djokovic had been absent from the Tour since the US Open, but he resumed business as usual in Paris, moving past his first-round opponent Tomas Martin Etcheverry in straight sets. He then overcame three-set battles against Tallon Griekspoor, Holger Rune, and Andrey Rublev.
Can Dimitrov cause major upset?
Meanwhile, World No. 17 Dimitrov has had a very strong end to the season and has clearly carried this momentum into the Paris Masters. At the Shanghai Masters last month, the Bulgarian player made it to the semi-finals after defeating Carlos Alcaraz 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 in the Round of 16.
Dimitrov has also had his fair share of three-set thrillers to play throughout the tournament in Paris, having only defeated his Round of 16 opponent Alexander Bublik in straight sets.
At the start of the event, he downed Lorenzo Musetti before taking on World No. 3 Daniil Medvedev and recording a tight victory against the Russian 6-3, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (2). He also ousted Hubert Hurkacz and Stefanos Tsitsipas to set up the clash with Djokovic.
Djokovic currently dominates their head-to-head 11-1, with Dimitrov not having won an encounter between them in over a decade, when he defeated the Serbian player in a tight three-set match at the 2013 Madrid Open.
Despite not having as clean a run as he perhaps would have liked, Djokovic has once again shown his ability to come back in any match, illustrating the strength of his mentality. Nevertheless, Dimitrov has already shown himself capable of pulling off major upsets against the best in the world with his victories against Alcaraz and Medvedev in recent weeks.
However, given the dominance of Djokovic in their head-to-head, combined with his ability to come back from anything, it is likely he will prevail from a close-knit final.
Prediction: Novak Djokovic to win in three sets.
