Day 8 of the Rolex Shanghai Masters will get underway on Wednesday, October 11 at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena, with Carlos Alcaraz and Andrey Rublev among those taking to the court. Here is our preview of the conclusion of the Round of 16 matches at the ATP 1000 tournament.
Up first on Stadium Court, Diego Schwartzman will take on twenty-second seed Nicolas Jarry. The Argentinian player is ranked at No. 130 in the ATP Ranking and entered the event as a wild card but has experienced a lot of success so far.
Schwartzman defeated seventh seed Taylor Fritz in his previous round but has dropped a set in all three of his previous matches. Meanwhile, Jarry is yet to drop a set at the tournament, having ousted Terrence Atmane 7-5, 2-6, and Lorenzo Sonego 7-6 (4), 6-2.

Alcaraz takes on Dimitrov as Rublev faces Paul

Following this, thirty-second seed Ugo Humbert will take on J. J. Wolf. The French player pulled off a surprise victory against Stefanos Tsitsipas in the previous round, overcoming a three-set battle with the World No. 6. Meanwhile, Wolf, who is ranked No. 51 in the world, fought back after losing a set against all three of his opponents so far, including fifteenth seed Cameron Norrie.
After this, Alcaraz will take to the court against eighteenth seed Grigor Dimitrov. The top seed currently dominates their head-to-head 3-0, having last faced the Bulgarian player in the quarter-finals of the Queen's Club Championships earlier this year.
The Spaniard overcame a difficult battle against Dan Evans in the Round of 32, with one game lasting twenty minutes as the players battled it out on deuce. Afterwards, Alcaraz stated that it was one of the hardest matches he had played outside of Grand Slams. However, both he and Dimitrov have moved through their matches so far in straight sets.
Finally, Rublev will play against twelfth seed Tommy Paul for the sixth time in his career. The Russian leads their head-to-head 4-1, having won their most recent encounter in straight sets at the 2022 Gijon Open.
Rublev performed exceptionally well against Adrian Mannarino in the second round of the Shanghai Masters, ousting the 31st seed 6-2, 6-0, thus suggesting that he is on very good form.
Paul also pulled off an impressive victory against Sebastian Ofner in the first round with a 6-3, 6-0 win, but dropped a set against Arthur Fils ahead of this clash.
