Roger Federer has opened up on his approach to mentoring his children in tennis after retiring from the sport just over a year ago.
The 42-year-old is often considered to be among the greatest players in the sport, with 20 Grand Slam titles to his name, 310 weeks as World No. 1, and 103 ATP titles.
Since his retirement at the 2022 Laver Cup, Federer has been spending a lot more time with his family and revealed that his children - twin daughters, Myla Rose and Charlene, and twin sons, Leo and Lenny - have all developed an interest in tennis.

Federer does not want to act as a coach to his kids

In a recent interview with GQ, the Swiss player explained that tennis was still a big part of his life due to his children's love for the sport, and while he tried to support them by providing tips and guidance, he wanted to make sure that he didn't act like a professional coach.
"Because my children also play tennis, I am still on the court a lot and of course I want to support them. Not as a coach at all, but more as a dad who can give them very good tips," he said (translated from German).
Federer previously revealed that he had sent his children to some prestigious tennis academies over the summer, with his sons spending some time at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca while his daughters went to the John McEnroe Academy in New York.
Federer also disclosed that his attendance at tennis tournaments such as this year's Wimbledon, where he was honored as a special guest, has helped him to keep engaged with the developments of the sport.
"Of course, I'm also represented at many big tennis events and I'm super happy to continue to be there. After all, this is my second home and my second family," he said.

Roger Federer on playing tennis again: "I haven’t booked a court yet. But I play a lot with my children, so I try to help them a little bit, try to be a coach. Hopefully down the road I can play some exhibitions again, when the body is healed up and all ready to go."
